I’m assuming almost all the Dems will oppose this. Are there enough Republicans in the state legislature who would vote against this because they’d rather face DeSantis’s wrath as opposed to Trump’s?

What power does Trump have in Florida? Desantis' endorsement is probably more coveted than Trump's down there.

Isn't this what tricky Lyndon had the legislature do in Texas in 1960?
It backfired on him and it'll backfire on little tinpot dictator Meatball Ron too.

Trump is the nominee he is leading DeSantis outside of IA, NH, FL he is crush DeSantis in PA by 25 pts, like I said before Trump isn't gonna sweep a primary but ultimately will win he isn't gonna be arrested until he is convicted

These types of short-sighted moves (much like changing Senate appointments to special election requirements) always tend to comically backfire down the line.

.he doesn't have to he's gonna win the primary and lose the GE by a landslide anyways he can lose some states like McCain did and still win the primary

Just because DeSantis is winning IA and NH and FL and CA like Bernie did doesn't mean he's the nominee

On the contrary, riding on DeSantis's coattail in FL is way better than Trump's. I would be surprised if any R votes against this bill. If so, they may be bought by Trump.

This is standard language for the Florida legislature; most if not all of the legislation they pass applies starting July 1st of the year it is passed.

How exactly did it backfire on Landslide Lyndon? He got elected vice president and if the Dem ticket lost the election, which it came fairly close to doing so, he would have had a Senate seat still, and thus been tied for the most powerful Democrat in Washington.

How exactly did it backfire on Landslide Lyndon?

Instead of carrying a colleague to victory in 1960 on his own coattails, his selfish move only strengthened the case for his Republican opponent Tower, who then won the special after Lyndon resigned in 1961.

1960 was to be the last time Dems won the Class 2 Texas seat - a net loss for LBJ's party and for the principles he advocated.

Your partisanship is blinding you to the fact that you can't have both an effective governor and a presidential campaigner over the next 18 months.

Plus the entire idea of changing the law for one person reeks of privilege and saviour complex.

I dunno if I can agree with your conclusions here, a lot of this reeks of an overwrought reaction and overextrapulation on your part.
John Tower's win in 1961 was something of a perfect storm.

They changed R2R here years ago, back when then-Governor Crist was rumored to be a VP pick. Also, many incumbent governors of states across the U.S. ran for President while in office, this isn’t a phenomenon exclusive to Ron.

R2R shouldn’t exist at all. We’re 1 out of like 5 states that has it.
