These counties I find quite interesting because while demographically, they seem like normal rural midwestern counties with no developmental spillover from Madison, they politically seem to be well in Madison's sphere of political influence, and almost seem like suburbs of Dane County.

For the past decade, these counties have generally shifted right, though more modestly than many other rural midtwestern counties. For 2020 Pres, they were basically a wash as most driftless Counties swung further right.

Why are these counties so liberal (for their demographic profile), and going forwards, what happens to them?
