Remember how Ted Cruz picked her as his running mate in the primary (usually, candidates wait until deeper in the general to announce a running). And then one week later, Cruz suspended his campaign.

What's even more puzzling is how Carly Fiorina dropped out of history. Since the 2016 primary, has anyone heard anything about her?

I surmise that Cruz picked a running mate because he was desperate, as he was heading for a loss to Trump. But why Fiorina?

She backed Biden in 2020, How Trump went after her personal appearance during the 2016 primary debates really offended her. She's back in the private sector likely because she knows she has no future in California or National Republican politics. Cruz picked her because he believed that having a VP would give him some legitimacy going into a contested convention with Trump but after the Indiana primary, he and Kasich made the calculation that keeping trump under a majority of delegates was likely impossible. Plus he thought choosing her would likely give him a boost in California which had many delegates and she probably had quite a bit of money she could have used to aid his campaign but at this point, it was too late.
