In 1984, for the Mayoral Election of San Diego, the race came down to two Republicans, Incumbent Mayor Roger Hedgecock and former news anchorman and savings-and-loan executive Dick Carlson (who is also the father of Fox News Anchor Tucker Carlson). A major issue in the campaign for mayor saw that Hedgecock had benefited from his 1983 special campaign in illegal contributions that amounted to $357,000 while Carlson was criticized for lack of Government experience and going back on his promise to not use his personal fortune in the campaign. In the General, Hedgecock won 57.9-42.1. However, what if Carlson never made his initial promise and also visited the site of the San Ysidro McDonald's Massacre a few days after it happened, visiting the victims of the tragedy and such (Mayor Hedgecock never did anything apparently despite San Ysidro being a part of San Diego, so Carlson could use this to his advantage and get a lot of supporters for looking more compassionate than Hedgecock). From there, Hedgecock makes a few blunders on the campaign trail as well as being charged with several felonies he was charged with in 1995 otl and loses to Carlson 55-45. How does Carlson govern as mayor of San Diego. What does the 1988 San Diego Mayoral Election look like? If Carlson wins re-election, how strong of a candidate is he to run for Governor of California in 1990 opposed to Pete Wilson and could he win it against Feinstein? How does the political future of Carlson look?an Diego
