Ok, I don't know exactly how much knowledge of a language is necessary to be considered a speaker.
I would guess if you can understand at least 85% (or more?), you should choose that language in this poll, but that is up to you.
I picked these three because they are the main ones in the EU.
Altogether there are 27 nations and 24 official languages in the EU

Yes. I originally only had the three languages in the title, but decided to expand the choice to any language.
For example, Klingon, Esperanto, and ancient languages all are acceptable.
If anyone wants to tell us what other languages they know, that would be good.

One thing that seems to be rarely mentioned when the subject of learning languages comes up is that speaking and understanding what people say are not necessarily the most important skills to be good at.  It depends on what you want to do with the language.  For example, say you're an American who wants to become a historian of Germany.  While speaking and understanding German well will certainly help you, being able to read (and, if you're publishing your work for a German audience, write) German is what's critical.

You make a great point. Latin is a good example.
In the USA (and other English speaking nations) one can get by without being bilingual. This is also true in America (aka The Americas). In most American nations Spanish is the primary language.

So, there are many people who learn languages to read great books in the original language. The obvious example is religious scripture.. The Bible as well as the scriptures of Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Taoist, Jain, and Zoroastrian religions as well many other great books were not written in English.

I love how in discord voice chat, they say i have a french accent while I can't even speak french.

Yeah a bit maybe, but my knowledge of vocabulary and grammar is weak. I suppose i understand why they say i have a french accent though, my french sounds are solid when it comes to surnames etc.

French sounds are easier than the typical dutch sounds of dutch (i don't speak really dutch like the dutch do), our regional variant is different.

Side note, I had a professor who had a French accent and a Dutch last name. I assumed he was Belgian. A few weeks into the class, he confirmed it and I felt like Sherlock Holmes.

I can vaguely read French and maybe understand if someone spoke slow enough.

German (native) and English.

I had some French lessons in school, though I forgot most of it already. Always found it relatively difficult and I never developed the same interest as for (American) English.

English native.

German I forgot all of it and do not care.

Spanish fluent when it comes to reading and writing. Have improved a lot in listening and even speaking due to my latino boyfriends. I have had no issues in navigating peruvian and ecuadorian websites in planning my large fall trip.

Sometimes at work I write notes or texts to Spanish speakers in Spanish and they write back to me in English. It is kinda funny, because in that situation we are both feeling incompetent in the spoken version but know each others language quite well.

I randomly looked at Italian and Portuguese websites and was able to read most of it.

I only speak and understand English.  I intend to learn Norwegian and Spanish, the latter of which I already know a lot of vocabulary.

I can speak & understand English and Mandarin Chinese.

I studied Spanish for seven years in school, but if someone wants to converse with me in Spanish, I would need a Chinese or English interpreter.

I studied French for half a year in school, but found it rather difficult. However, I do remember a few basic phrases which I also found online later on, and I plan on using these phrases in the event I travel to predominantly French-speaking regions (e.g. Quebec).

I never studied German in school, but I do have a second cousin who is currently studying in Germany, and who came to the US for a single semester as a visiting scholar at a US-based university. She visited my house on two occasions, and for those visits I looked up the German phrasebook online and memorized a few greetings so that I could greet her in that language.
