I think it's most likely that the electors would have voted for Benjamin Brown for President and whomever he picks for VP.

I thinking the Electoral College would divide along regional lines, with Northern states (which normally went Republican) going for Grant, and the South going for Brown.

To be honest, I do think the decision to invalidate electoral votes cast for a dead person was legally wrong, and set a bad precedent.
