Writing systems:

So we see India has historically and culturally had more of a presence in this area.

India is also rising again... but perhaps not fast enough.

China has been aggressively trying to expand in the South China Sea.

And the West (especially the US, Australia) and its allies (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and sometimes India itself) have been leading the counter to China's rise.

SouthEast Asia has also been rapidly industrializing, modernizing, and to some extent "Western-izing." But the rise of China is real, even as it stumbles, and India is definitely striding in a way that it could catch up (if given enough time).

This could be the main arena of the geopolitical powers of the world in the 21st century, even if it never comes to outright war.

What will be the status of SouthEast Asia in 2100?

It may just be the status of the whole world... and even if not the whole world, let's not forget this:

Conservatopia:
Bold of you to assume we won't all be in the Filipino sphere of influence.

CumbrianLefty:
Time to make Brunei great again!

President Punxsutawney Phil:
I think it will be:
まが。 Make Asia Great Again.
George Friedman and Meredith LeBard had it right in 1991.

Pres Mike:
None of the above

Indonesia has 273 million people. Philipines has 113 million. Vietnam has 100 million. Thiland has 73 million.

The idea that the global south automatically falls into a sphere of influence is laughable. Look at the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Most countries of the global south have not put in sanctions, even if they disapprove of the invasion. Each for its own reasons. Its OWN reasons, not what other nations want.
