https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2023/03/wyoming-governor-mark-gordon-bans-abortion-pills/

Quote
Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon signed a bill Friday prohibiting abortion pills, making it the first state to ban abortion medication independent of an overall ban on abortion. Separate legislation, which Gordon did not sign but allowed to become law, put a near-total abortion ban into place.

The majority of abortions are performed with medication. Wyoming’s only clinic exclusively performs medication abortion and would be shut down by the new law, which goes into effect in July. Thirteen other states have bans on the medication, but also ban all abortions. Another 15 states have partially restricted access to the pills.

Quote
The abortion restrictions which Gordon allowed to become law without his signature would make performing the procedure a felony, leaving only narrow exceptions for cases involving rape, incest, or threat to the mother’s life. In a letter accompanying his signature on the medication bill, Gordon wrote that he “acted without bias and after extensive prayer, to allow these bills to become law.”

(No word yet on whether or not the state motto has been officially changed to "Equal Rights For All White Republican Men".)

They can't stop healthcare providers in blue states from mailing the necessary medication through 'e-health' appointments and such, can they? I mean certainly not without massive effort to check every piece of mail from blue states to red states coming into the state which I hardly believe they could do realistically.

Isn’t there an injunction against the trigger ban there?

If not, there is a certain growing security risk on US287 and I25 between Laramie, Cheyenne, and Fort Collins. It’s crazy how different the role of the government in people’s lives has gotten between the two states. It’s “interesting “.

If abortion pills are murder, why does the law go into effect in July instead of immediately?

Is it possible that Republican politicians don't actually believe that abortion pills are murder??

Abortion is an unnecessary privilege for the girl that refused you sex in high school or the girl trying to hump your husband.

Especially dumb because Wyoming isn't even all that religious, especially for somewhere so politically conservative. The Equality State is just doing this to chest-pound and trigger the libs.

The real gutpunch is that I knew a lot of these legislators when I went to school with them. Some of them were nuts and some of them were quite normal. One of the girls that is in the state senate for Torrington now, some girl named Tara I think, seemed to be a very reasonable, intelligent, and moderate republican and ELCAer, and she was one of the ring leaders of this. It’s crazy how people are getting brainwashed. I also know the woman who represents Riverton in the House, she was more conservative but not this conservative.

I think both Wyoming and Idaho are becoming much more religious probably in the same way that at least Gen X and earlier POCs are becoming more into the social liberal orbit out of sheer partisanship.

Virtually the entirety of the American right has internalized a number of very nasty positive feedback loops. It's why I'm genuinely worried for America's immediate future, and why I don't consider comparing the GOP to the Nazis hyperbolic. I don't think there's any brakes, or any bottom, anywhere on the right. They've collectively lost all ability to filter, moderate, or empathize. There are no institutions holding back their worse impulses, nor any further societal Rubicons that need crossing; there's nothing between the GOP and the worst horrors of the Nazi regime but some time and their own imagination. (The left - from the corporate establishment left to the various flavors of far-lefty's like myself - is not perfect, but we're better than this.)

It's not too religious but I'd also imagine abortions aren't common in Wyoming just because it's a small state with lots of geographic isolation. In any event, abortion pills will be attainable through the black market the same way marijuana is. I don't think this law will affect many people in the end.

Still, Wyoming was a far better state politically in the 1800s. It's a shame they've forgotten their roots.

Coloradans will go to the border for fireworks, Wyoming(ites?) for weed and abortions. Truly a positive trade relationship! Will be great for the development of a border town in the area.

I wish it was easier to get these things on the ballot in Wyoming.  I doubt the voters would uphold this.

IIRC, Wyoming is the most secular state in the union. This is just good ol' fashioned reactionary sexism and patriarchy that believes those "stupid" women don't know what's better for themselves and men must take care of business.

Lmao. Was America prior to 1973 a “theocracy”? Why does discussion on this forum, of all places, have to be so filled with hyperbole and raw ideology?

Weird. I thought you were saying (or at least heavily implying) that pervert freaks like drag queens and trans people didn't deserve protection earlier today in another thread.

Wyoming passed a strict anti-abortion law the same year they joined the Union ftr.

When no one is willing to stand up to the craziness, it doesn't really matter how many are true believers and how many are just cynical opportunists.

Well, your definition of most vulnerable is not valid. Embryos aren't even in society yet. The most vulnerable in my view are the elderly, the mentally ill, the homeless, and already born children.

Well, when my grandmother entered the medical field they had entire wards of hospitals dedicated to those with septic pregnancies that nobody could do much about.

Where did you hear this? Wiki said there was a law passed in the 1950's that criminalized intent and procurement of abortion, but it was never really enforced. (T'was one of the beauties of early Wyoming and the pre-Industrialized West -- you could do pretty much whatever you wanted without having to get Uncle Sam's and/or rich people's consent.)

Well, that’s easy. They don’t think you considered to be the most vulnerable part society to be part of society.
