Not really in comparison to polling and the overall idea that the race was supposed to be close because of all the money Whitman spent.

Harris definitely underperformed. She just got 46% of the vote and almost lost.

Actually that was an overperformance for a candidate who was written off. Democrats pretty much conceded the Attorney General race to Cooley so Harris winning was a big upset. Cooley being District Attorney of Los Angeles County was supposed to give him an edge.
