Michael Nutter, the third Black mayor in Philadelphia's history, did well in white ethnic wards like Northeast Philly---for a black candidate, places that Wilson Goode and John Street did not carry in the 80s, 90s and 2000s.

Nutter got 50%-60% of the vote in places like Somerton, etc. over a credible Republican like Al Taubenberger in 2007...

Nutter ran on introducing stop and frisk for illegal guns and distanced himself from Mayor Street. On the other hand, Taubenberger was a weak GOP candidate at that time and lacked funds.
