Stupid and deliberately cruel. Under the language of this bill, you couldn't give your co-worker a ride to work if you knew they were undocumented, or have them over to a house party.

Fake news / misrepresentation

It’s not just “a felony to have an illegal alien in your home.” The language relates to human smuggling:

a person who knowingly and willfully commits any of the following offenses commits a felony of the third degree:

 (b) Conceals, harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection, in any place within this state, including any temporary or permanent structure or through any means of transportation, an individual whom the person knows, or reasonably should know, has entered the United States in violation of law and has not been inspected by the Federal Government since his or her unlawful entry

This kind of language ^ has been federal law for decades

As for the DNA stuff, the bill permits law enforcement to collect DNA of anyone they arrest who has a active ICE Warrant against them

Try reading the bill instead of your fake leftist NewRepublic news

Aiding and abetting a criminal should have already been a crime

Is checking patient citizenship actually in the bill?

Only if they have an active warrant from ICE when their investigation is ran.

That...doesn't sound like a huge amount of people.
Sure, I dislike this bill and would vote against it, but (as usual) the Twitter user involved has sensationalized things.

A governor (and his party) abusing their power to target a political rival like this is just wrong.

There is no such thing as an "undocumented Floridian."

Has it occurred to the various low IQ posters of the forum that undocumented immigrants tend to have family members who are US citizens and who would prefer that they not be deported? This legislation criminalizes family values among those who are immigrants in Florida.

Just read the bill brah. Here is the language. It's on pages 9 & 10: https://m.flsenate.gov/session/bill/2023/1718/billtext/filed/pdf

These are the cliffs:

1). Hospitals that accept Medicare must ask, in the intake forms, about whether the patient is an illegal alien or not.

2).  The question must have a statement indicating that the response won't "affect patient care or result in a report of the patient’s immigration status to immigration authorities."

3). On March 01 of each year, the hospitals must submit a report to the Governor, President, and Congress indicating how many illegal aliens came in for medical care; and the report must state the cost of care and the impact the cost had on the hospital fiscal needs

4). When compiling the reports and collecting information on immigration status, the hospital can't require the disclosure of patient names
