https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/south-carolina-death-penalty-abortion-1234695566/

Members of the South Carolina State House are considering a bill that would make a woman who has an abortion in the state eligible for the death penalty.

The “South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act of 2023” would amend the state’s code of laws, redefining “person” to include a fertilized egg at the point of conception, affording that zygote “equal protection under the homicide laws of the state” — up to and including the ultimate punishment: death.

The bill was authored by Rep. Rob Harris, a registered nurse and member of the Freedom Caucus; it has attracted 21 co-sponsors to date.

it is the expansion of BIG GOVT COMMUNISM, the SHEEPLE need to WAKE UP and realize this isn't about abortion

this is about BIG GOVT establishing DEATH PANELS that can legally PUT WOMEN TO DEATH for simply supporting any policies or having views that BIG GOVT disapproves of

BIG GOVT will keep a close eye on the women who r on their sh**t list waiting for them to have a miscarriage that way they can swoop in and ACCUSE THEM OF MURDER and parade them in front of BIG GOVT DEATH PANELS and kill them just for holding any views that the BIG GOVT TYRANTS disagree with

it is truly a frightening time in which we live!

This is an unwarranted extrapolation.

btw, SC has not executed any women for any crime in at least the past 5 decades.

Dems need to crack down on these people and focus on jobs, abortion, health care and sensible criminal justice/police reform...

Stop with the SJW guilt or you will get these Taliban freaks in office.

Maybe we can convince Biden to apologize for being white just once or twice per month instead of daily.

This is illogical. Will never go anywhere that matters. Most people are okay with abortions within certain limitations. Going against the will of the majority...well, good luck with that. And good luck with winning elections.

I think the intent here is to discourage women from getting abortions, doubt they actually want to chair every woman who gets one.

But why should people care if a woman has an abortion? What is it for other people? Who cares?

And yet that's what the bill would do. Curious how that works.

If they sign it into law and fry women to death in electric chairs, it doesn't really matter what they "want" to do. It matters what they actually do.

Show me a single one of them who said they support giving women who get abortions the death penalty.

All of them expressed support for giving women who get abortions the death penalty when they co-sponsored a bill that would give women who get abortions the death penalty.

"Co-sponsoring a bill doesn't mean they support the bill" is just hilariously bad-faith.

They support a bill which says nothing about either the death penalty or criminally charging women for abortions. To say that supporting this bill implies support for such a thing is a flight of fancy.

Literally the second sentence of the article

Quote

How do you lie so effortlessly, particularly when your claims are so easy to disprove?

If a woman gets a death sentence for getting an abortion, and then she becomes pregnant again, what would Republicans do?

What court has ever found that Equal Protection means that all homicide requires the death penalty? If so then South Carolina and every other state with a death penalty is already running afoul of it.

Between the terrible optics of it, and our supreme court actually not being terrible, I don't expect that any women will be executed here for getting an abortion. That said, it shouldn't be a possibility at all.

I don't know if you're just arguing in bad faith or if you genuinely lack reading comprehension.

Nobody here claimed that a death sentence would be the required punishment. In fact, the person who made this thread was very clear:

Members of the South Carolina State House are considering a bill that would make a woman who has an abortion in the state eligible for the death penalty.

Yes or no, do you acknowledge that this bill would make women who receive abortions eligible for the death penalty?

I will acknowledge it if someone makes a decent argument based on the actual bill text and not the specious reasoning of a partisan music magazine.
