Conservatives often claim that the Nazis implemented gun control/confiscations and encouraged abortions. However, this is not quite true.

In reality, the Nazis actually loosened Weimar-era gun restrictions for "Aryan" Germans. However, it is true that Jewish people and other minorities were explicitly prohibited from purchasing firearms. Nevertheless, Germany had very strict gun control laws well before the Nazis took power, on the whole the Nazi Regime loosened gun regulations, and it is an utter myth that the Nazis "disarmed the populace to implement their totalitarian regime and conduct the Holocaust."

Likewise, for abortion, only Jews and other groups the Nazis didn't like were allowed to have them. The Nazis explicitly prohibited "Aryan" women from having abortions, and only "Aryan" women were severely punished for having abortions. Abortion was legal without punishment only for Jewish and other minority women.

So the typical conservative argument about the Nazis definitively being pro-choice or pro-gun control is utter nonsense. Actual Nazi policy on these issues were more nuanced.

Nevertheless, when the truth of this issue was mentioned, someone on another forum said something along the lines of "It is interesting that on gun control and abortion, the Nazis implemented 'liberal' policies for groups they didn't like, and 'conservative' policies for groups they did like." It's shocking that conservatives don't use this argument more often because it is technically true. Nazi policies in regards to abortion and gun control can accurately be described as "(American) 'conservative' for groups they liked and (American) 'liberal' for groups they didn't like."

If someone makes this argument, what would the best response be?

To sum up: The policies Nazis wanted for their themselves, because the Nazis thought they were good ideas were forced birth and lots of guns. The policies Nazis wanted for everyone else because the Nazis thought they were bad ideas were access to abortion and gun control.

This forum has the highest accumulated knowledge of Nazism anywhere on the internet.

There are some proper experts in the History forum.

We have a Euro-ethnic TV channel in Australia called SBS, and every Friday night, there is a special on Adolf Hitler and/or the Nazi's. I don't think the fascination is going away in people's minds as to how they got started.

I found it amazing I was born only 25 years after the strangest political order the World has ever seen.

The best response would be to ignore them, since they are not arguing in good faith.
