How will history judge the ”Trump Era”, in the event of a win or a loss in 2024?

Six men have run and received electoral votes in at least three elections:

John Adams: 1788, 1792, 1796, 1800
Thomas Jefferson: 1796, 1800, 1804
Andrew Jackson: 1824, 1828, 1824
Grover Cleveland: 1884, 1888, 1892
Franklin Roosevelt: 1932, 1936, 1940, 1944
Richard Nixon: 1960, 1968, 1972

Trump would be in good company — all six won their third race.

If he loses the general in 2024 and is still alive in 2028, he'll probably try for the nomination again. He's not just going to step aside for DeSantis or Lake or Greene or whoever as long as he's breathing.

Possibly (health permitting), but I think there would be even more internal opposition to a fourth Trump nomination.  And, if he loses the primary and the Republican wins the general, I really don't think he will primary the incumbent president in 2028.

Funnily enough, Trump does have something of a "Bryan" skillset. He is in his element when he does rallies...

Trump will definitely continue running (and hopefully losing) until he physically can't.  Given his age, the odds are pretty high that will be either this time around or 2028.

I’m a liberal Democrat so I loathe the man, but if I am being honest and put my feelings aside: if he manages to win in 2024 I think history will judge him as being a bit of a badass or a sort of Teddy Roosevelt-esque political maverick. He’d likely eclipse Reagan as the blueprint for what a Republican “should be” in that event, especially after his death, and all of his detractors would be cast out of the party. Liberals and left-leaning folk will likely always be disgusted by him, in any event.

I think Trump winning, followed by some GOP-e toadie losing badly in 2028, would be quite interesting.

I highly doubt the man who staged a coup will ever be remembered fondly.
