Terrifying but as a gay person who lives in Ohio I can attest that 99% of people are not shrieking neo-Nazis who hate us. This is a massive improvement from my childhood 30 years ago when I felt like I couldn’t even say the word gay, let alone admit to being gay. I have family that openly still support Trump to this day and even they are generally supportive of me and my husband.

People like this exist, sure, but we’ve come a long way.

I don't make the rules I just know how they work. There are certain places I will not go based on who I am because I don't want to end up being threatened or attacked.

That is not a brave way to live life. I can certainly understand not wanting to live in certain places, or maybe not wanting to go to some places alone, but avoid them entirely? Really? You might miss out on a great experience if you just stepped out of your comfort zone a bit.
