Well, I haven't really been "whipping" for this, so I'll do it now.  If you're in Lincoln, I'd appreciate your vote for General Court here.

Also, happy St. Patrick's Day (belated) to all, especially my Irish friends and friends of Irish descent.  Erin Go Braugh!

I'm not sure how it happened, but for some reason, I quadruple posted in the voting thread.

I just wanted to assure all that no "shenanigans" were intended; this was an honest mistake (again, I'm not sure how I did it).

Mea culpa, all.

Forgive my ignorance, but could someone fill me in on the topic of write-ins for Lincoln elections?

Specifically, what happens if a write-in candidate (or candidates) get more votes than those officially nominated? Does the write-in then win election...or what's the deal?

Not sure how this would apply to a race for just one open seat.

In a one seat race, a write-in candidate is just like any other candidate. They simply do not have the benefit of their name being listed on a thread. If they win, they get the seat.

The exception to this is for regularly held elections to the LGC (so February, April, June, August, October, December), in which we have constitutional language stipulating that a maximum of two write-in candidates may be elected. This provision has never had to be invoked, but if it ever had to, the election would be counted as normal until two write-in candidates are elected, and then at that point any remaining write-in candidates would be removed and their votes transferred to the next on-ballot preference, before allocating the remaining seats. If we had a situation where, say, a 2nd and 3rd write-in candidate reached quota together, whoever was more over quota would get in and the other would be eliminated.

Yeah, this sucks big time. Sometimes the forum slows to a crawl or enters a quasi-maintenance mode; other times, our individual internet connection may cut out briefly just enough to where things error out on our end but the request goes through still.

I've learned this the hard way in the past. Whenever posting on a thread where duplication is a concern, make sure not to click the "post" function more than once, and even if/when your browser errors out or it seems the forum has crashed, do not repost until you can get the page to which you tried to post refreshed and reloaded successfully. Sometimes, this stuff goes through even if it tells you it didn't: I imagine either the forum being crappy or your internet sketching out led to the duplication of posts.

Ah, OK.  Thanks for clearing that up!

And now for a speech...

(clears throat)

Barring any last-minute challenges, it appears that I have secured victory in the special election for Lincoln General Court.

First off, I wish to thank Solid and write-in candidates NewYorkExpress and Illiniwek for a hard-fought race.  They ran their campaigns honorably, and as such, made things quite interesting.

Second, I thank all those who took the time to cast a ballot, either for or against me.  This exercise in democracy was truly a vote by and of the people.  Our region is stronger for this.

I stand before you tonight as a happy man, and one astonished at the support he has received.  You, the people of Lincoln, have entrusted me with the future.

Now that the real work is beginning, I promise that I will not let you down

The Millhouse Amendment to LGC 12.12 passed a short time ago.

With its approval, I am happy to report that the Don't Encourage Drug Use Act has achieved final passage, and subsequent signature by Governor Griff.  Smiley

This is a simple resolution, congratulating the University of Connecticut Huskies on their recent national championship in men's basketball.
