Between July and October last year, I held a game titled "The Gathering Storm: Redux", itself a remake of an unsuccessful 1939 game. This remake proved far more successful, and we played from 1933 to 1937 before personal circumstances forced me to stop hosting and suspend the game. As it happens, I am now in a better position to resume the game, to play it to its completion as we wait for other games being prepared to be ready.

So this thread is intended to measure interest, see which old players would like to return, whether there are new entries, and all in all, whether a continuation is plausible.

This was the cast by the end of 1937:

The Cast:

OLD

German Reich: Chancellor Alfred Hugenberg (RGM2609)
United States of America: President William Borah (S019)
Empire of Japan: Emperor Hirohito (Devout Centrist) [CONTINUES]
Republic of France: Prime Minister Edouard Daladier (YPestis25) [CONTINUES]
Kingdom of Italy: Duce Benito Mussolini (KaiserDave) [CONTINUES]
Republic of China: Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek (Kuumo) [CONTINUES]
Republic of Turkey: President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (Spiral) [CONTINUES]
Dominion of Canada: Prime Minister R. B. Bennett (DKrol)
Union of South Africa: Prime Minister Jan Smuts (Ishan) [CONTINUES]
Spanish Republic: Prime Minister Alejandro Lerroux (Dereich)
Kingdom of Hungary: Prime Minister Miklós Horthy (AverageFoodEnthusiast) [CONTINUES]
Polish Republic: President Adam Koc (Windjammer) [CONTINUES]
Kingdom of Romania: King Carol II Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (Muaddib)
Kingdom of Bulgaria: Tsar Boris III Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (OBD)
Chinese Northern Coalition: Warlord Zhang Xueliang (Carolyn)

NEW

Abyssinian Empire: Emperor Haile Selassie (New York Express)

Key nations left available by the end of that year included:

British Empire: With Prime Minister Chamberlain forced from office. A player would either play his Conservative successor, or an emergency government appointed by King Edward VIII.

Soviet Union: Following the deposal of Stalin (1936) and then Sergei Kirov (1937), Marshal Mikhail Tukhachevsky has taken over as part of a temporary Army-NKVD alliance. The Soviet Union is on the brink of civil war.

Other available nations include Czechoslovakia, South Africa, Australia, Ireland, Abyssinia, Greater Serbia, and Persia.

Anyway, the thread will be up for a few days to see if players are interested in returning, whether they wish to switch or retain their nations (they retain priority over them), and so on.

Preemptively claiming Abyssinia (I would take the UK, but my track record with big nations just hasn't been good to this point, and in any event I claimed Abyssinia before we went on hiatus).

Granted!

In light of the constitutional change, you can switch Horthy with Otto if you wish.

Reserving the UK for Dereich. Once I hear from Germany, we'd actually have more than enough players to resume the game.

Excellent! We have a full set, so this is a go. I think we can start on Monday, hopefully.

Fair enough, I’ll probably sit this one out then since iirc RGM has priority.

RGM does have priority, but happy to have you on board with another nation if you wish!

I'm going to be posting and editing to gain time, but the turn is NOT OPEN until I make it clear on the Sign-Up thread.

I would like to return as the Dominion of Canada, if I may.

Great to have you back on board!

Would you like to be added tomorrow (turn ends three days after that, on Saturday) or next turn (Early 1939)?

Whichever is easier for you!

Tonight it is. You can get started on diplomacy if you want.
