Probably Civilization IV, although the Total War series (especially Medieval II, Empire, and Rome) are strong competition

There are a lot of video games I love that it's very difficult to pick one. But gun to my head, since 2005 when it came out, I probably put the most hours into Advance Wars: Dual Strike for the Nintendo DS. Hell, I have been playing it again recently. I love it so much and the whole drama with the reboots of Advance Wars 1+2 for the Switch has been torturous to me because of my love for this truly underrated series.

Roguelikes/roguelikelikes where you play "runs" with procedurally-generated worlds, permadeath and the normal difficulty is very hard. Think FTL, Don't Starve, Invisible, Inc., Slay the Spire, Darkest Dungeon, modern XCOM at a stretch.

The games I’ve played the most number of times/put the most hours into:

Final Fantasy XII (the best one; VII Remake is close behind)
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (been doing runs of this one where the items are in a random order — lots of fun!)
Spy Fox in: Dry Cereal (I know this game like the back of my hand. Couple probably do it blindfolded on the right path)

the game I've played the most is Civ4, Caveman2Cosmos mod

the game I was best at compared to the other players, probably Delta Force:Blackhawk Down or Joint Operations:Escalation (older FPS on the PC) or possibly Battlefield4

the game I've had the most fun playing, probably BF4

It's lrobably between any Mass Effect game and Dragon Age: Inquisition when it comes to Western games. Bioware just strikes a chord with me. When it comes to Japan, the Ace Attorney and Deus Ex series are definitely up there.

For me it was the Earth 1000 AD scenario (Beyond the Sword version) I played the most

I liked playing with a real map and civilisations that were actually more or less contemporary to each other

I certainly like true start location Earth maps, but I don't care about contemporary civs.  I'm still playing, in 2023.  Have a game going right now as Germany, and I'm far in the lead score wise (though Japan has almost as many cities), but I'm WAY behind in tech over the other top guys.  Also I have a huge criminal problem caused by my many enemies filling my cities with criminals.

Too many to choose!

Red Dead Redemption was the first game that made me cry.

GTA Vice City will always hold a special place in my heart for its perfect satirizing of 80's culture and a kickass soundtrack.

TLOU and TLOU: Part II were masterpieces; I actually prefer II's story over the first.

Paper Mario and Pario Mario TTYD.  Both fantastic games that still hold up.

I just beat Goldeneye on 00 Agent again last night.  Picked it up for the first time in years because of the Xbox re-release.  Aztec is really really hard.  Train is the level that took me the longest though.  I really like the Perfect Dark remaster on Xbox, play that a lot.

My three go-to games are Civ 6, AOE2, Smash Bros.

Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is my favorite game of all time.  The original, although the remaster on Switch was quite good (just didn't have that nostalgia feel).

I also concur with the consensus that Super Mario 64 is a fantastic game that I'll play any day, any time.
