I certainly don't think of any version of the Bible (Roman Catholic or Protestant) as "The Word of God".
The problem is that a lot of people do.

I regard it as I do the Book of Mormon, L Ron Hubbard's Dianetics, The Satanic Bible, Tarot cards, Ouija boards, the Quran, or any other religious text.

For Entertainment Purposes Only.
I don't how historically accurate the movie "Inherit the Wind" is but the Scopes Monkey Trial was equally the Bible on trial. A literal interpretation of the Bible is at odds with evolution and science in general.

For us Christians it is not a Freedom Book, but a Horrible Book - because freedom is only given to us to get consciously unfreed by the tremendum majestatis.
ST.MARY: "I am the slave of the master." (he doule tou kyriou)
If that is true that type of Christianity is slavery of the mind. Is it not healthier to be a free thinker?

I'm sorry, but I am not familiar with that quote. Would you like to elaborate?

I agree, but those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Not very. It's an excellent movie but sort of a hit piece in its presentation of Bryan, and various other players to lesser extents.  By the playwright Jerome Lawrence's own admission Inherit the Wind was meant to be more "about" McCarthyism than "about" the real Scopes trial.
That may be so, and I didn't know that (interesting).. but it also has a lot to do with "the Bible on trial" as well as "Evolution on trial". I also don't know if the arguments by Darrow were similar to those by the Spencer Tracy character.

"Why I Am An Agnostic":

and of course,

William Jennings Bryan (March 19, 1860 – July 26, 1925)

Bryan, as most people (at least those at atlas) know was both a prominent religious and political figure.
