Rochester gets it if she wants, but Jack Markell may want to run too.

I believe Tom Carper was the one quoted as saying "my worst day as Governor was still better than my best day as a Senator."

Obviously his opinion may have changed but this sounds like the kind of guy who may not feel the need to seek a fifth term in the Senate. I won't be surprised if he steps aside (I also think Cardin is pretty likely to retire as well).

If Lisa Blunt Rochester does become the next Senator from DE, she'd be only the third black woman in history to serve in the Senate.  I may be wrong but I think Carol Moseley Braun and Kamala Harris were the only two so far.

There are rumors Rochester might go for governor instead. Though they might only be if Carper stays.

Going for gov would give LBR the opportunity to write history as first black female gov. There has never been one and is unlikely until the 2024 elections. Of course, unless some lt. gov. like Juliana Stratton has to fill a vacancy before. Though Rochester would still be the first AA woman to win an election for a state's top job.

The first black woman to be governor could be someone that has never held statewide office or someone we haven’t even heard of yet.

Yes.

A lot of people want Barbara Lee or London Breed to replace Feinstein if she resigns/passes away before 2024.

Being Governor these days seems like a more fulfilling job than being in the Senate especially governing a state where your party has a trifecta like DE. LBR has some executive experience previously being a CEO of a non profit and a state cabinet secretary so she may be more drawn to running for Governor.

Somewhat unrelated to Delaware, though I always felt being governor was a preferrable job than senator. You can actually implement policies and more effectively use the bully pulpit. Being governor is also a better "training ground" in general than the senate, because a governor has to get things running and at some point has to function as a crisis manager.

Being Governor also gives one an executive advantage should you want to run for President, although I bet LBR wouldn’t really want that.

But it doesn't give you the high-up Washington scale and often little in regards to foreign policy too, both of which seem to increasingly matter more and more.

He hasn’t even announced that he’s retiring nor is it a given that LBR will run and clear the field.

Is Governor John Carney likely to enter the race if Carper retires?

New Castle County is simply too blue at this point. Republicans also likely have no one credible.

Exactly, unless they somehow convince Ben du Pont to run they’re gonna have to get some rando who’ll lose 61–39 against LBR

To further this point, the DE GOP's candidate against Chris Coons in 2020 was a QAnon believer.

I'm watching the announcement now and it sounds like he's out. He was talking about his service his Vietnam and his time as Treasurer, Congressman and Governor.

Delaware will now have the very rare combination of an open governorship, Senate seat, and at-large Congressional seat in a safe state (assuming Blunt Rochester goes for the Senate seat).

LBR for Senate, Sarah McBride for Congress would be perfect Purple heart I don't have a preference in the Gubernatorial primary though.
