Though I know that this might not swing me these states, but I have friends  in New Mexico and I have family in Ohio.

OMG, your right!!!  I once knew this guy in Massachusetts and my grandparent's and cousins live in NY, those states would be shoo-ins for me.  How could I overlook that when making maps for my scenarios?

Because he doesn't have insane views that would bring about the downfall of civilization and actually is really not all that bad on the issues.  The policies a person supports are orders of magnitude more relevant than the candidates someone supports.

I have family in Wyoming. There's no question if I ran I would have an EXCELLENT shot in Wyoming for that reason.

First off, less active is different than small when it comes to government. A government can be very active but still be small if it's activities are limited to a small, specific set of duties. Second, I also want my government to be COMPETENT! Opebo's probably less competent than George Bush is.
