So, again, there might not be much of a difference. I mean, DeSantis vs. Biden could be Obama vs McCain but it could also be Mondale vs. Reagan.

This is the last binary election with an 8% split (1988):

426 EV for Bush/Quayle 111 EV for Dukakis/Bentsen.  53.37% - 45.65% in the popular vote.

For a 7% split in a Presidential election



365 Obama/Biden vs. 173 for McCain/Palin.   52.86% - 45.60% in the popular vote.

Either way, Democrats probably win Texas, which is rapidly becoming much like a microcosm of America. Ohio used to be such before most of its cities started dying.

My understanding is that the two states with demographics most similar to America as a whole are (or were when 538 wrote about this, which was in like 2015) Florida and Connecticut; interestingly the latter is not competitive at all and the former really isn't any longer either.
