Do you support checks and balances or a rubber stamp?

Please elaborate.
President Johnson:
Checks and balances with Republican president, rubber stamp with Democratic president.
Just kidding, obviously, checks and balances. However, I think the congress needs a bunch of serious reforms such as an end to gerrymandering, campaign finance reform, ending the filibuster and expanding the number of House seats. 435 is just too small for 330+ million people. Around 550-600 would be better.

Command of what? There's no one here.:
I support accountability and answerability to the public. The American system of checks and balances works against that, especially in periods of divided government, but so do systems where whatever party controls the legislature can just do whatever it wants indefinitely. In general I think the ideal is executive responsibility to the legislature but strict judicial independence.
TML:
Checks and balances for policies that benefit elites, rubber stamp for policies that benefit ordinary people.
