I think that once it becomes blatantly obvious that he's not running Twitter as a "free speech platform" but simply arbitrarily banning people on whatever his whims are and isn't some bold whistleblower but is only promoting right-wing clickbait stories for the purpose of clickbait and generating Twitter activity they'll drop him like a hot potato. Just wait until some high profile right-winger is (re-)banned after pissing him off or he starts pushing some anti-Trump clickbait story for the same reason.

Yes they will turn on him. I don't think Musk is a match for Republican idealism. Musk is like Trump I believe...out for Musk. That will turn off a lot of people except those who think like Musk. I'm guessing deplorables and such groups.

Literally the only reason they like him in the first place is because the left hates him now.

Having one of your guys own one of the top communications platforms, giving him the ability to manipulate what people see and what information they share, is a pretty big get.  But the right is going to screw it up, because Elon will eventually have to do some censorship and moderation to get advertisers back on the platform, otherwise it will just be a huge money pit.  Nobody really cares about Kanye, but the first time he bans some conservative provocateur or back-bencher state rep, the right will explode in outrage.
