Well, the worst case for Musk is that he ends up like Ferdinand de Lesseps. Regardless he doesn't deserve to be lumped in with the other two (who don't deserve to be lumped in with each other either).

Kanye has been visibly mentally screwed for over a decade. That charade he pulled with Taylor should have been a canary in the coal mine. The fact his toxic fan base still propelled him up for all these years is why he has been able to skate by without being really pushed to seek real help. He should never have been relevant. I hope people never listen to another Kanye (his name change was done out of mental problems as well) song again except for music history classes down the road.

I mean, this isn't shocking.

Kanye clearly has some, inhibited, agency. But should we be shocked that after years of being courted by the reactionary right, his views being well known with Tucker cutting his anti-semitic comments from air just a few weeks ago and being defended until very recently by his handlers that we to the get 'I like Hitler' stage.

This  trajectory was clear years ago. And for years the 'you're not a Nazi or anti-Semite until you declare your love for Hitler' crowd have told everyone else they're the unreasonable ones.

By next week, he'll have his defenders against his 'cancellation'. And then rhetorically saying 'I like Hitler' will not be a red line anymore. And the window shifts, just as it did after the Club Q shooting, to excusing more and more odious beliefs and people.

I don't necessarily think that 'people who incite violence don't deserve free speech' is something that society should accept uncritically, for the record -- all of these terms that are used as excuses to censor end up ballooning in meaning in practice -- but this is a difficult case to get up in arms about, since the opinion being censored is so unsympathetic and fringe, and the person being censored is both clearly mentally ill and clearly has other platforms to use. Probably the right move for Elon here from a PR perspective even if I'm inclined to look at it a bit askance.
