I listen to a wider variety of music. I particularly like: Taylor Swift, Incubus, Liz Phair, Chevelle, Fiona Apple, St. Vincent, Paramore, the Ting Tings, the Doobie Brothers, and Skating Polly.

It's not metal. It's metalcore. They were clearly part of the hardcore scene and not metal especially if you look at the other bands they played and toured with.

Those are to metal what those mall emo pop bands are to the real emo I listen to and significantly less accepted by metalheads than those bands are by real emo fans. In fact a big part in why I developed I a hatred of metal was metalheads dumping on such bands when I was in high school.

It wasn't just "a few morons". It was actually so much of a thing that many venues refused to book both hardcore bands and metal bands on the same show because of fears of violence between the two crowds it'd attract.

I think what people need to understand is that "melodic metalcore" and "metallic hardcore" have completely different foundations than what real metal sounds like...they still focus mostly on breakdowns and have a hardcore vocal style rather than the sort of stuff and vocals in real metal songs. There's no death metal growling, no guitar solos, no metal-style song structures, etc.

There are not 46 genres of music!  Spotify wants there to be as many music genre as there are genders in San Francisco.

I'd say there are six genres.  Classical, rock, rap, pop, country, and jazz.  Every song is some sort of variation of one or more of those six.

They'd be a mix of the six archetypal genres.

Ok, but what about if they’re genre non-conforming too

I'd have to determine it on a case-by-case basis.

A very rare example of non-post-/emo/-core type music that I like.
