Do you support vouchers for students to attend private schools? I find these systems intolerable and disgusting, and it's hilarious how central they're becoming to the GOP """education plan""" (to the extent that such a thing even exists).

No.  Public money belongs in public schools.

Yes, in principle, I feel that the school should fit the child, rather than the child fitting the school.  Every child is different and unique and so the more choices there are, the better I feel the opportunities would be.

I know that "school choice" and vouchers seem to be more for directing funds to religious or private elite schools but I think that there should plenty of secular or affordable alternatives to the public school district in any town or city, so I generally approve of providing aid to parents so that they can find the best school for them.

It probably means, however, more tax revenues might be needed to make up for the shortfall when public school funds are being drained, so there's a limit to how far citizens want to go in spreading out precious tax dollars.

Yes. I support as many children escaping the public school system as possible.

In theory yes; but in reality no because school vouchers would lead to established private schools increasing their tuition while there will be plenty of bad private schools being established which will hurt students.

Nope. Taxpayer funding should be solely going to support public schools. Vouchers funnel money away from already struggling schools, leaving remaining students worse off. Plus, students who do end up going to private schools via voucher programs have not been shown to perform better (and in some cases, worse) than public school peers.

For professional reasons, I cannot do this in good conscience.

I don't support diverting money from public education to vouchers, but I think there should be a program for low-income students to attend a religious school of their choice. I'm not opposed to non-profit charter schools, but the emphasis should be on improving public education which public schools won't get if all of their money is used for charter schools.

Yes, public schools should have to earn taxpayer dollars. Competition pushes them to be better.

Why should religious parents get any more special treatment than they already do?

Of course. Students should be able to attend the school that fits their individual needs the best.

I'm quite indifferent to this issue. I know very little about the pros and cons of this issue, so I have not been able to form an opinion one way or the other.

No; they’re a half-measure. Just abolish the top-down system in favor of voluntary association. The Prussian model is no longer necessary for military preparedness and not suited to a culturally diverse class of subjects.

They can. They just shouldn't be able to steal from the public school system to do so.

No. If there is one area of government I support it's funding the ever-living sh**t out of public education.

And how, exactly, can they "be better" when the resources they receive are being taken away and re-allocated?

Absolutely not. Private schools should receive zero government funding. We need a significant increase in funding for K-12 public education in this country, especially including significant pay raises for teachers. Many teachers in this country are already forced to buy supplies and whatnot out of their own pockets. I do think teachers should have some good latitude as to how to teach their students. That should not be hampered by the ability to make ends meet.
