From the perspective of the time, and taking the candidates as they ran and not how they might have ran under this system.

I probably would have preferenced Trump ahead of the other major contenders, but I might have been tempted to preference someone like a Pataki (nostalgia reasons) first to state my issues with Trump.

Dunno, if I can only preference 5 then "how do they do overall" would've been an important consideration. Probably the top five would've been Paul, Rubio, Walker, Cruz, and Kasich in some order, but the order itself is difficult to determine. Jindal and Gilmore would've both gotten long looks from me as well.
