What time do you eat Thanksgiving dinner?

It floats from year to year (and I now have multiple thanksgivings to attend.)

My family always aims for some time in the neighborhood of 2-4pm; the husband's family prefers close to 12 noon.

Anything 5pm or later (i.e., when it's dark outside) is weird and I think you're lame if you do this.

6pm or so. Noon? That's not dinner wtf?

The use of the word "dinner" to refer to the last meal of the day is a very recent phenomenon.  For a long time, dinner was a large meal eaten during the middle of the day.  "Supper" is the traditional English word used for an evening meal, which was historically more informal and lighter than a full dinner.  This nomenclature lives on in the American South and much of the British Isles.
