Lol at atlas leftists still choosing Gravel as if it's not clear to everyone that he'd throw Ukraine to the wolves and legitimize Russian genocide by faulting NATO (not that supporting an old man handled by a bunch of high school tankies was not insane already)
Well he's a funny option so who cares like objectively a 90 year old man running for president who has a unique perspective and has done quite a few good things in his career, yeah I might vote for him over some other bland politicians.
Also he died before the Ukraine war even broke out. I don't think this factored into anyone's decision.
More to that circumstances changed, i would have been appealed by anti-NATO talk as well and be critical of NATO
but I wouldn't have thrown Ukraine under the wolves and I did not. I find it offensive to suggest that someone would've thrown Ukraine under the bus if we don't know his opinion. The man is dead.
On top of that you don't govern alone, you have advisors around you who moderate your more radical viewpoints in a democracy. At the least i might be a left wing or even far left campaigner but when actually governing my policies would be a switch to more moderate viewpoints on some issues where that is needed or advised to be, and to make peace with other people within your government and your advisors. Otherwise, one can never be an effective leader and accomplish much.
It is pretty clear that almost everyone within the US would've supported Ukraine. I would not be different to that, however in the months leading to the conflict broke out, i probably would be skeptical or critical (unless intelligence services would tell me something else which they likely would have done, since the US warned early and in advance for this scenario), or I would choose a different approach, but whenever the war would be declared, my stance would be tough, staunchly defending Ukraine and Europe.
I continue to be critical of NATO's activities during the 1990s and 2000s and more specifically the crimes committed during the 20th century as well, which one should not forget.
NATO in the longer run should also be reformed and renamed to a more modern equivalent.
