Davis had almost nothing in common with the average North Dakotan (he was out of step with the state's isolationist views and he favored limited government).   

It's highly probable that if it were a 2 man race between Coolidge and Davis, the LaFollette voters would have gone heavily for Coolidge and getting the margins close to 1920 levels (in which the Republicans received 78 percent of the vote).
