Bush declines to run and both major parties nominates former Presidents Ford and Carter in a rematch of 1976. Would be the closest OTL we've got to with two former Presidents going head to head and turn out to be a fascinating matchup.

Who'd win? Discuss with maps

Ford wins due to having a better Administration and the national mood favoring the GOP

Carter outperforms Dukakis in the South, but does worse everywhere else. His relative moderation on economics hurts him in the Rust Belt.
