November 30 Democratic leadership vote

Chair of the House Democratic Conference:

Pete Aguilar: Acclamation

House Minority Whip:

Katherine Clark: Acclamation

House Minority Leader:

Hakeem Jeffries:133
Mark Pocan: 80

Georgia Senate Runoff

Herschel Walker 50.69%
Raphael Warnock (I) 49.31%

In a lower turnout Runoff than expected former NFL running back Herschel Walker defeated freshman Senator Raphael Warnock to keep the Senate at 50-50. While Warnock generally was able to hit roughly Biden numbers in much of metro Atlanta and slightly over preform the President in Northern Georgia he bled support in much of the rest of the state thanks to a noticeable drop in African American and youth turnout. Even in metro Atlanta where Warnock was able to hit most of his benchmarks he couldn’t get the turnout needed to win.

Federal Democrats blamed the loss on lower than expected base turnout and the overall disinterest in a December runoff. While Republican leaders called the result a strong indicator voters had moved on from abortion and were sending a strong message they were fed up with the inflation crisis.

House Speaker vote

Kevin McCarthy 219
Hakeem Jeffries 211
Present 5

December news
-The Respect for Marriage Act passed the senate 62-37 and House 267–157 and was signed into law by President Biden on December 16th days before the winter recess.

-Republican and Democratic leaders agreed to a continuing resolution in early December which was signed into law December 16th that funded the Government through September 30th 2023 and prevented a last minute government shutdown. The resolution increased Ukrainian aid by another 10 billion while also waiving possible cuts to Medicare for 2023. The bill included raising the debt ceiling. In exchange for the previously stated objectives Democrats agreed to no additional new spending projects until next fiscal year in September.

-The Fulton County DA office announced a final decision on possible criminal charges involving Donald Trump among others to come in the early new year. This is likely the first of multiple legal hurdles the former President faces on his quest to retake the oval office.

-Georgia (13-0) Ohio State (13-0) Clemson (12-1) and Michigan (11-1) were selected to the 2022 CFB playoff.  ACC runner up North Carolina (10-3) played AAC champ Tulane (11-2) in the Orange Bowl. Big 12 champion Texas (9-4) played Tennessee (10-2) in the Sugar bowl. Pac 12 champion Oregon (11-2) played Penn State (10-2) in the Rose bowl. Big 12 runner up TCU (12-1) played Alabama (10-2) in the Cotton Bowl.

Where is the House election result
First graphic should be the final house map. All the outstanding Cal races went R with CO-3 while AK-AL went Dem.

Trump among others charged in Georgia election probe

In an unprecedented move the Fulton county District attorneys office charged former President Trump and a slate of "fake" electors among others with conspiracy to commit election interference/making false statements, improper influence on government officials, and forging documents. Today concluded a nearly yearly long investigation by Fulton County into former President Trump and associates into his actions following the 2020 election. Trump among others who have maintained their innocence were released on bail today. A trial date has not formally been set but is likely not to happen until the fall of 2023 or Spring of 2024.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp was not available to comment on the indictments only stating that he trusts the legal process. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced today that the House would investigate whether the Fulton County DA office acted improperly in there investigation and if the charges were politically motivating.

Special Council charges Donald Trump over misuse of classified documents
Donald Trump received more bad legal news as the Justice department announced they are issuing charges related to Trump's alleged use and storage of classified documents. These new charges while not likely to carry any prison time if convicted could further complicate Trump's path to the White House. A new poll shows that 4-10 Americans and 2-10 Republican Primary voters are less likely to support Trump's bid for the Presidency based on Federal indictment. Further a majority (54%) of Republican Primary voters would prefer someone not named Trump to be the parties nominee with another 8% undecided.

It is unknown the extent of how hard Trump will be attacked for his legal trouble in the primary though it is notable that Trump's former running mate Mike Pence has been hitting him hard on the ethics question in an attempt to portray himself as a "conventional conservative". Ron DeSantis so far has been mum on the topic only stating he will trust the legal process.
