Map of % of people showering/bathing daily.
According to this map, many Europeans and Asians don't like water.

Do you think this map is accurate?

Which is the least "clean" country of all?

The gray countries are the one in which there is no available data.

The red countries are the dirtiest ones. So, it's the big Eurasia

It’s healthier to shower every other day. That’s what my family raised me to do and it’s well supported. No it’s not “dirty”, as long as you have not been in dirty places like a bus or plane (then you should ofc shower immediately upon getting home)

I'm fairly shocked at this. Well, we all knew about the French. But seriously, in the western world? who doesn't shower daily?

I have never heard of this before. Why is it healthier to shower every other day?

It could dry your skin out, especially if you use a lot of hot water or shower for a long time. Of course if it's hot enough outdoors and indoors where you're sweating a lot then it makes sense to take a cooling shower daily.

The more interesting question would be, what percentage of people shower/bathe at least once every other day?

Italy is God’s Own Country, so unsurprising.

Unless you have hard manual labor to do, do physical exercises or it is really hot outside, showering daily is quite excessive (German, normal)

I know that, rather I was asking if there was a table of individual countries as well.

My impression in Chile is that people like to pretend that they shower daily because that's the social expectation but actually almost no one does

Something interesting that I should mention, is that if you lived during the California drought years, you learned not to take a shower unless it was necessary. If you weren't leaving the house, there was no need, whereas if you worked out you timed your showers for maximum benefit. I know Israel has a similar short/minimal shower culture cause of water scarcity, so maybe that's a thing in other places water is scarce.

Didn't expect Mexico to top the United States here. Generally an interesting statistic.

I for sure belong to the >75% of Americans to daily shower.

WTF. That's nasty. I take two showers a day in lukewarm water. One is just water and washing my face. The other is a full shower. I can sometimes go without the former, but the latter is a must daily.

I expect this is true of quite a few people.

Unfortunately, I don't have this table.

Red is really too wide. It varies from 0 to 64.9

I’m low-key shocked, but also not really.

Here in Brazil, I feel people just really LIKE to shower. To me not only it helps relax but feel more refreshing. Which makes the day happier. Like, it’s not that unusual for someone to spend a long time in the shower just because they really enjoy doing it.

I can understand the coldest countries not doing though. When I lived in Spain - which isn’t even that cold - I couldn’t shower everyday like I do in Brazil. That was true mainly for the winter, as you don’t really feel like a shower is refreshing, more like freezing.

The vibe of showering in Brazil is that I feel much better to go out and enjoy the day happier.

In Europe showering with as much frequency is the opposite, it would make me want to go under the sheet instead of going out. I don’t really judge, I did the same.

Now, people in hotter countries really have no excuse the way I see it.

Rapists and murderers also bathe above 95% to destroy forensic evidence.

There was a convicted killer in Los Angeles from Italy who cleaned his house four times a day.

No physical evidence was ever discovered.

Fellow German, cannot confirm this. I don't know anyone who doesn't take at least one shower daily.

Edit: What is the source for this map?

I generally shower once per day, but I can see why more humid countries would shower more frequently. I had never really been in that hot and humid of an area before I went to about the middle of the US (OK, KS, MO, and IA) this August. I felt filthy from sweat after having spent 10 minutes outside just existing.

I've always found it easier to just take a shower once a day than actually come up with an arbitrary guideline of if I feel unclean enough.

When I'm in Southeast Asia I shower literally 3 times a day because my body isn't used to the heat and humidity.
