I think Tillis retires, making Cooper more likely to win.

Yes there will. Trump isn’t in charge of elections in North Carolina.

Yes there will.

All evidence points to the contrary. It won’t be an overnight 1984, but it won’t be a fair democracy

What exactly is Trump’s plan to end free and fair elections?

Political intimidation, violence, restricting voting right, gerrymandering, ya known everything republicans have been doing but just dialed up without an executive to keep them in some sort of line

How can you gerrymander a senate race?

You didn’t ask about a senate race specifically, but elections generally.

But I’ll bite. You can draw precincts in a way that make it harder to vote, overly large, splitting communities, straining recourses in places you don’t want to turn out.

Cooper is the only Democrat who could theoretically beat Tillis in a Biden midterm, but I still don't think he would actually win in that scenario.

Cooper would thrash Tillis in a Trump midterm and I would expect Tillis to retire rather than get embarrassed like that.

I think Tillis would be in trouble in a midterm either way. I doubt he would get low propensity MAGA voters to turn-out for him without Trump's or even a governor's help. Budd already won by less than he was expected to in a Biden midterm.

Meanwhile Cooper is a popular governor that has cross-over appeal and probably would manage to get Democrats to vote.
