In the first German federal election after the reunification, in 1990, Kohl's coalition (CDU/CSU+FDP) had 54.8%. SPD had 33.5%, B90+Grüne had 5%, PDS had 2.4%. The margin was big but not so huge. SPD won Hamburg, Bremen, Saarland, North Rhine-Westphalia.
If the result was somehow different, Oskar Lafontaine would be the first chancellor of the reunified Germany. It would be more similar to the unified Germany the kids presented to their mother in "Goodbye Lenin".
