For all the hate Sinema gets, she's a very effective legislator. She helped get infrastructure through, she helped negotiate the gun bill and the marriage bill. I think she's one of the only only Democrats who understands that the GOP isn't for the most part "obstructionist" but are, y'know, conservatives with different opinions than Democrats have. And that a lot of the establishment GOP would absolutely love to do bipartisan dealmaking but that you need to be reasonable. They were willing to cross the aisle on hot button issues like gay marriage and guns, and get nothing in return, because Sinema didn't ask for them to endorse the activist group position (like an assault weapons ban or transgender rights). Contrast that with Chris Murphy's approach of screaming about guns every year, making demands that are simply unacceptable to the GOP, and then accomplishing nothing. Yet he's a member of the caucus in good standing.

So hypothetically, if Kari Lake somehow doesn’t run for Senate, could the GOP just go ahead and reluctantly endorse Sinema?

They will never endorse somebody who voted twice to convict Trump.
Or who is extremely socially liberal and a partisan dem on basically everything except the filibuster and taxes.

Luckily taxes are by far the most important issue to the GOP and their donors…
Best case scenario for the GOP at this point is that Masters and Lake both run and split the crazy vote, allowing someone electable to win. But if one of them wins I could see some establishment types/donors going with Sinema. Probably won’t help her much though.

Ironically Trump and Lake are some of the most moderate in the party on abortion. Unfortunately they come with their own baggage.

In the republican party you can either be pro-democracy or pro-choice, but not both

That’s a good way of putting it.

What a shame that one of the most effective, bipartisan, and hardworking, no-nonsense Senators I have EVER seen was forced out due to hyperpartisanship. No one has had a more successful one-term Senate career IMO. She is an absolutely brilliant legislator and was extremely instrumental in bringing people from all sides of the political spectrum together to pass good, longstanding legislation.

I had a feeling this was coming, but it's devastating nonetheless. When she won in 2018 I envisioned a long career as a leading Senate moderate for her, which was perfect for a purple state like Arizona. Instead, the leftist activists and their damn purity tests decided she wasn't good enough.

I hope she runs for President under No Labels or for Governor of AZ one day.

Enjoy Senator Kari Lake, y'all. Sinema woud've won easily if Gallego didn't get in.

She was a very effective legislator and her retirement is a loss for the Democratic Party. However, she handled herself very poorly by being arrogant and going to bat for unpopular causes like private equity of all things. Either way her being forced shows that no Democratic Senator will oppose filibuster reform in the future- it’s not an acceptable position in the party, like being pro-life.
