Juneteenth is a real holiday, based on a real event that happened in history. “Freedom day” is some abstraction that has no real meaning.

Interesting that a day celebrating freedom has no real meaning for you and is a simple 'abstraction'. As a Devout CentristTM perhaps this amendment may be more to your liking as it provides added specificity.

Mainly because from my reading the amendment only changes the name in one clause, not the others. I really don't have a problem with the name Juneteenth.

Amendment is approved 8-7-0-3.


So to simplify everything, we have 2 proposals here:

Emancipation Day or Juneteenth

A vote is now open on your preference. Please vote by either stating the name you want or the corresponding proposal number. Vote will last until 11:59 PM eastern on Monday when the other open votes close or until evrryone votes, whichever occurs soonest.



Version 1: National Emancipation Day
