It depends on whether there was another incident earlier in the year to cause riots. If not, I think it happening just a week before the election actually helps Trump because the story gets drowned out by the campaign.

Trump does worse since if the summer of riots didn't happen, then it would be harder to run on the law and order stuff.

Do people here really have the memory of a goldfish and forget Mitt phucking Romney was marching with Black Lives Matter? I don't know if any states flip aside from North Carolina but Ds do MASSIVELY better in Congress/down-ballot races because all the focus was on police tear-gassing protesters and murdering unarmed black men over a $20 counterfeit bill.

The only time Trump appeared to be a bit in the driver's seat was right after the RNC when the movement really started to lag on people.

You could be onto something here. Or subsequent protests and riots become the main theme of the story and would then hurt Biden because Trump would pretend to be "Mr. Tough Guy".

I don't see how a summer of riots could ever help the incumbent party. If that party is more associated with law-and-order, then it just makes them look that much worse because they're bungling their own issue.
