I have no idea how Wisconsin could have Democrats sweep the state local offices and yet people, a lot of them, split the ballot to Ron Johnson? Makes no real sense since he’s the more odious of the two (Johnson vs Michaels).

Senate more nationalized?

In reality it has more to do with Barnes being black and from Milwaukee. Rural Wisconsin is VERY racist.

I think the Milwaukee part hurts more than the black part. Large states always hate their major city. Ohio feels that way about Cleveland - even though Columbus is significantly larger - Pennsylvania regarding philadelphia, New York, match, and Illinois about chicago, etc etc. If say he had been black politician from Green Bay it wouldn't have hurt him as much.

Maximum possible chaos scenario: GOP picks up the House, but by like 3 seats. They can't find anyone that can unify the caucus to become Speaker of the House, so a couple defect to make one of those "unity coalitions" we sometimes get in state legislatures, and we get a GOP House with Nancy Pelosi as Speaker.

If it comes down to a single seat or maybe two, I think Pelosi is skilled enough that there is a very real possibility she could persuade a Republican to switch parties.

Calling it now. R's win 218 tonight, but Van Drew flips back to the D's.  Wink

Quaint Washington County at the southwest end of PA reporting @ 94% -- was once a Democratic stronghold, but has not voted Democratic since Kerry won by about a percentage point in 2004.

Oz leads 56-42, Trump won here 61-38

It is a serious question of just what exactly went wrong for the Republicans. Cause this was not the runaway election we thought it would be.

I guess Evers is much more palatable to swing voters than Barnes is. Plus Jonson is an incumbent who has proved he can run a good campaign?

Note that Boebert is in the right column (Safe R) on the NYT list, so a pickup would allow the Democrats to take the House with 30/36 tossups.

They absolutely cratered with white voters tonight.

Is it a question? Terrible candidates, the shadow of Trump/Jan 6, and Dobbs backlash.

If Barnes keeps this close, maybe I'll have to revise my prediction of Baldwin narrowly losing in 2024.

DEMOCRATS UP TO 209 SEATS ON THE NEEDLE

Is a 218 to 217 House (for either party) in the cards?  Let's make it so!

I know it’s not different from a 50/50 Senate but I would fear for the safety of house members in that case
