So, um Orwell? What were you saying about Michigan State beating Notre Dame? They lost yesterday, 70-52.

Florida State continues to just be pathetic, losing 79-69 to #5 Purdue. Next up for the Seminoles is #3 Virginia, to begin ACC play.

Meanwhile, for Purdue, which remains unbeaten, next for them is the beginning of Big Ten play, with a home game against Minnesota.

Following their 64-63 to #6 Baylor, #14 Gonzaga is 5-3 on the season, and 2-3 against ranked opponents (their one ranked win coming against Kentucky).

When you have 8 scholarship players and 2 are injured, Hoggard & Akins, along with the 8th scholarship player being a 0-star freshman, you're bound to struggle a little bit early in the year. The Papists are in a weak conference anyway.

#1 Houston had a surprisingly close 53-48 win over St. Mary's.  Houston really hasn't played anyone strong yet; their game against Alabama next Saturday should provide a better idea of how good they really are.

North Carolina loses its fourth straight, 80-72 to Virginia Tech.  The preseason #1 team will likely fall out of the Top 25 this week.

Louisville still does not have a win after dropping their ACC opener to 80-53 in a game that wasn't even that close.

Next up is equally struggling Florida State in Tallahassee, which might be the best chance for an ACC win this season (along with the return game in Louisville).

#7 Creighton lost at home 63-53 to rival Nebraska, who actually seems to be decent this year.

Well, that's much better than Nebraska's football team (shocking, I know).

Wisconsin takes down previously unbeaten #13 Maryland, 64-59.

Maryland's got a great matchup at the Barclays Center with Tennessee next, while Wisconsin heads on the road to face Iowa (who is getting flattened by Duke tonight).

Watching Houston against Alabama.  Houston definitely looks the part of a national championship contender.

In addition to Houston, a couple of other ranked teams have already lost today.

#17 Illinois fell to Penn State 73-59, and #22 San Diego State lost to Saint Mary's in Phoenix, 68-61.

Louisville is still without a win after getting flattened by previously 1-9 Florida State 75-53.

Next up for the Cardinals is their best remaining chances at getting a win this season, with their last four non-conference games and one ACC Game, three of which should be easy wins for an ACC program. (vs Western Kentucky, vs Florida A&M, vs Lipscomb, @ NC State, @ Kentucky).

I have to think that if Louisville is still winless after the Kentucky game on New Years's Eve, Kenny Payne will be fired.

I expect WKU will be favored over Louisville, and even Lipscomb is not a gimme for them.  They should certainly beat Florida A&M, which is one of the worst teams in the country.
