In the 2016 GOP Primaries, Ted Cruz actually wins in an upset victory in South Carolina and then goes on to sweep Super Tuesday, Trump withdraws from the race after June 2016 when Cruz secured the nomination. Cruz also wins the popular vote in the GOP primary with 45%, Trump 30%, Rubio 13%, Kasich 9%, other 3%.
2016 General Election goes as follows:
Ted Cruz actually still picks Carly Fiorina as his VP at the convention. Trump endorses Cruz because the race never got as nasty since Cruz ended up sweeping the delegates.
Clinton still wins the same way she won in 2016, picks Tim Kaine as her VP
Cruz campaigns on immigration, healthcare, and the economy. Clinton campaigns on keeping ObamaCare, social issues, and the economy.
Cruz is initially neck and neck and then by the fall starts trailing in the polls. After Comey reopens the investigation in late October, Cruz starts going up in the polls. Cruz wins in 2016 and wins the popular vote with a plurality since Jill Stein actually took more votes away from Clinton and Gary Johnson gets less votes.
2020 General Election:
Everything that happened in real life still happens here. Cruz runs unopposed in the GOP primary and Biden wins the democratic nomination for president. He selects Kamala Harris as the VP. Covid still happens but Cruz still wins re election and defeats Joe Biden in 2020. Biden conceded and there was no January 6.
So who wins the 2024 GOP nomination after 8 years of President Ted Cruz?
