However, I am ashamed of the major flaws that still exist in America (systemic racism, police brutality, wealth inequality, generally aging/aged infrastructure, etc). Also, Trump supporters are very embarrassing.

That doesn't mean I'm proud of everything that happens or has happened in America. Neither do I believe I'm superior to anyone just because of my passport.

Generally no. But I have lost just about all over the top pride in being an American. Right now, I stay because my roots are here and my career has some restrictions on being able to pick up and leave. At some point, depending on the state of the world, I could see myself moving to Europe.

Traveling to a small, poor, and weakly-defended country where the showers are about as wide as my shoulders has given me a certain appreciation for some of America's excesses. Also, NyQuil. I don't seem to find that here, and in this time of sickness, it is a shame.

No. This country is complex and beautiful.

It is neither the completely rotten, irredeemably racist hell hole that some far leftists claim it to be, nor is it the irredeemably degenerate, homo-communist nightmare in need of some authoritarian strong man that far righties claim it to be.

I will always be grateful to live in a country where I can speak my mind, worship God, and have a good shot at a decent, dignified life. No country is perfect, but I love this country and I always will.

In a general sense, no.

There certainly have been some moments in recent years at which I would have said yes. But generally, no.

Not proud either, though. I hope I can be one day, but that day is not today.
