I don't think anything comes close to the greatness of the Warren Court.

Probably late Hughes/Stone.  They put a bunch of utterly ridiculous legal theories that had basically rigged the entire economy for 2 generations to bed.  That's also roughly when federal law becomes recognizably modern, setting the stage for the later civil rights decisions.

The Heavy-Handed Warren Court was the "Least Worst" way to resolve, legally, the various racial issues that had been festering in America for too long prior to 1954.  The Warren Court was willing to issue unanimous decisions on the major integration issues in order to assert the Court's authority.
