For quick evolution in action you can look at snail kites in southern Florida due to the arrival of the apple snail.

I read a book by the paleontologist Neil Shubin entitled, Your Inner Fish.

Shubin was one of the discovers of Tiktaalik an extinct species.

Cool. I didn't know about that.

They almost disappeared but are now back in high numbers with larger beaks. The smaller beaked ones couldn’t make it but the few with larger beaks before got the competitive advantage and multiplied and passed on their genes.

Whoa! TIL as well! Not super familiar with them since I’ve never been to Florida. Found this article giving some details.
