Balmoral is her summer home, her main residence is Windsor.

Asquith in 1908 had to go to Biarritz in France to see Edward VII.

Mr Blobby turned up on The Big Breakfast the other day, for maximum 90s throwback.

All the reports say Truss and Coffey are great friends - which is why her allegedly being sent to  Health is so odd. It’s such an exhausting job, with no easy wins, and an easy way to become one of the least popular members of government.

I guess Coffey has avoided controversy at W&P, (which is no easy feat) so she might just be seen as a safe pair of hands. But having a Deputy PM, who’s in charge of shepherding the NHS through a very tough winter just feels like the government is setting itself up for Labour attack lines - especially if she has to stand in at PMQs at any point in the next six months.

I suppose it's to emphasise that health will be a priority for the government. Given that Health, arguably, should really be considered a Great Office of State in its own right these days, handing the post to a close confidante of the PM seems like a better move than giving it to some non-entity or as a poisoned chalice to a rival.

Also, we can already see how low Truss' authority within the party is by the way in which certain over-mighty subjects appear to be refusing to serve outright or refusing the cabinet posts offered them by the PM.

So I guess it's very likely we're not going to see another general election until the regular date some time in 2024?

I, for one, feel represented by this government. We clumsy women matter too.

Reading Liz Truss's Wikipedia page (or I guess that of her husband to be precise) on this most important day for her I found out that one of her two daughters is named Liberty... lol.

Very unlikely. The Tories are trailing in the polls, so Truss won't be calling for a snap election. Especially since they have a comfortable majority in the House of Commons for now.

Chancellor Kwartang it is then.

Trivia note - he’ll be the second Chancellor in British history to hold a PhD. The first was Gordon Brown.

Cleverly is Foreign Secretary. I imagine the government will heavily rely on him for media rounds etc. A better communicator than most of the others getting top jobs.

Coffey as Health makes sense imv- it’s a very important job with everything going on and she is competent, not ambitious and very close allies with Truss. It makes much more sense than say Chief Whip- I would have made her Home Secretary if I was Truss and imo she’s one of the few of this cabinet that merits a position in it, despite her many faults.

Cleverly falls into the Margaret Beckett category e.g foreign policy will be ran by the PM.

Will BoJo maintain his seat in parliament or is he going to resign? I almost can't imagine him becoming a backbencher like May.

Has been very close to Truss in the past. They know each other well and have often discussed matters affecting the country and, also, I believe Uganda.

Brandon Lewis in as Justice Secretary. That's a role with a high turnover, he's the ninth person to hold the post since the Tories came to power in 2010. One former Justice Secretary being Liz Truss herself.

In a turn of events that will surprise no one, Ben Wallace is sticking around at MOD. Man has some of the best job-security in politics right now.

Also, Zahawi has been given Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, so I imagine we’ll see a lot of him defending the Truss government’s record (both on TV and in the Commons).

Making Penny Mordaunt Leader of the House feels a bit patronising - quite a downgrade from her cabinet roles under May, but it’s definitely a step up compared to her roles under Johnson.

Appointing Jake Berry as Party Chairman feels like either a savvy move, or an attempt to look like you’re making a savvy move. Either way, given his leadership of the Northern Research Group, and advocacy for the Red Wall, it looks like a statement of electoral intent.

Close. International Trade.

This is a terrible Cabinet. Wallace, who is of course a holdover, is the only person it in who I can imagine any pre-1979 (arguably even pre-2010) Tory PM trusting with anything more substantial than a random sinecure. Maybe JRM too, but in a bad way.
