This cuts taxes on low-earners given it changes the 10% bracket from 0-13k to 0-25k and 15% bracket from 13-50k to 25k to 75k

The way the amendment is worded doesn’t seem that way to me, because the way it looked it made the first group from 0/25k be 0-13k instead but switch to abstain since I’m not a fan of the higher income cuts

In light of the recent update, I am requesting that the Senate provide conditional aid to Iranian civilians. We are also sanctioning Iran for their illegitimate government and the war it is waging against its own people.

Okey dokey:

Quote
- carbon tax accounting (going to have that posted soon-ish)
- score the financial transaction tax
- recheck spending figures for newly added bills
- CUBI thresholds/possible amendment
- independent verification of toplines once we've done all of the above
- Iranian aid, will work on that bill in a bit

Anything from previous discussions about the CUBI that might be useful? For Scott and whoever else has been privy to those.

I do actually want the Senate’s opinion on this by the way.

Per the Encke post that I linked in my notes and according to the original wording of the carbon tax bill, we were supposed to see increased revenue over the years as we gradually phased in the tax. Instead we have had flat revenue at the 20% stage where it was originally introduced. Thumb’s figure from the budget would seem to indicate we’ve “lost” roughly $163.5 billion because of that.

From this fiscal year onward we are supposed to bring the revenue up to 100% anyway, that’s a given – so what do we do with the “lost” revenue since it was never accounted for in the budget?

The President has expressed to me that while Iranian aid can be provided via executive order, we do need the Senate to authorize the funds (which would be emergency and therefore take effect immediately, in this case). However, this might be better addressed in subsequent legislation, such as the resolution I authored and WD sponsored.

Iran must be totally sanctioned as a state and diplomatically we cannot accept the current regime, but we're not going to play games with human lives either. So we are taking a different approach to this situation than Israel has, in that we will provide laser-focused humanitarian aid that does not benefit the Iranian government. We will likely need increased funding as well for tracking those dollars, to the last cent, and ensuring they don't end up in the wrong hands.

Do we have a good definition of what is meant by 'defense related activities'?

This carried all the way over from the earliest budget I could find, so maybe you can ask Badger: https://talkelections.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=118388.msg2633279#msg2633279

I assume it was part of some budget sim but the twelve intervening years have not been kind to whatever the state of those links are further up that thread.

Anyway, I would like this amendment considered:

Quote
Excise Taxes/customs duties:
Carbon Tax (2018) – $ 16.35 81.75 billion

For the eighteen plus of you who are supposed to be reading this plus any concerned citizens, I really would like an answer to my question above, please and thank you.

Thumb’s figure from the budget would seem to indicate we’ve “lost” roughly $163.5 228.9 billion because of that.
