Here's the final official precinct map:

And it looks like Lightfoot narrowly beat out Johnson in the 5th Ward after all:

It certainly feels like Johnson has a bit of momentum right now

Vallas is running a very conservative campaign because he knows he’s the front runner. Johnson is doing a good job capitalizing on it.

Clyburn's endorsement is not that meaningful here compared to the critical local endorsements Vallas has received. I think Vallas is still the firm favorite, though I can see the final margin being closer to the high single digits than a true blowout.

So the teachers’ and service unions’ candidate vs the public safety and building trade unions’ candidate? Man, if there’s a great beyond you know Boss Daley is off smiling somewhere.

Not a fan of national figures inserting themselves into local races.

I feel like if the two candidates are both on the same wave length, they should stay out, but this race is basically a Republican vs. D so I don't see why they would.

The voters can’t figure that out for themselves?

Sounds like you're vouching for no one ever endorsing in any single race ever again then?

All anybody wants is Columbus back in his place.  Brandon should promise to do this and he will win.

I'd agree with you if this were a smaller city like Columbus or Albuquerque, but Chicago is one of the largest cities in the country, yea its a local election but it's going to have (small) national consequences.

A federal official endorsing in a federal race has a direct impact on the work said official is doing in Washington. I don’t like it when national figures endorse in gubernatorial races either.

How come Sanders endorsed Johnson but Garcia hasn't yet?
Is there any bad blood between them?

Lingering primary bitterness, also Chuy looks very weak if Vallas wins Mexicans anyway

This. I suspect he stays out of it. He wrote a very non-committal editorial this week outlining what he hopes "the next mayor" does. I think if he was going to endorse, he'd have done it. I also think Vallas comfortably carrying the Hispanic vote is a real possibility.

Well, that seems to me very petty and self-serving behavior coming from a guy who presents himself as a progressive champion.

Is Obama expected to make an endorsement here? Chicago afterall is his hometown, albeit the fact that he resides in Washington for most of the time.

Definitely not; Obama has been reluctant to get involved with local Chicago politics since leaving office.
