Why is this pinned and not the NBA thread even though way more people watch and enjoy NBA?

Because hockey is empirically and objectively a better game by far. It is known.

I'm not an Ovie fan but damn man, that's impressive.

It is and it isn't. Crosby essentially ties him or slightly leads in points because the latter has always been a playmaker and a team player. It was recently reported that Ovi didn't want any rebuilding of the team while he's on his quest to make the goal record. That sums the guy up in a nutshell. The absolutely antithesis of the idea there's no I in team. So the coaches will keep putting him out to score empty netters every chance they can get and otherwise leave major holes in their program unplugged to accommodate their star, meanwhile the team languishes in the mid to lower part of the division and is in serious risk of not making the playoffs. Roll Eyes

I'll take a consistent team playmaker like Crosby everyday of the week and twice on Sunday over a puck hog like Ovi.

Ovi sounds very much like Gretzky.

Much worse, grumps. Gretzky was the consummate playmaker as well. It was tough to argue Gretzky was somehow a puck hog considering the number of assists he racked up.

The Canucks just fired Bruce Bordeaux and replaced him with Rick Tochett. Great job replacing a future hall of fame hockey coach with a sub 500 career coach. What a mess.

Oh, Facebook just posted that they've also just hired Adam Foote and Sergei Gonchar as assistant coaches. Looks like they really are trying them Major League Shake up.

My guess is they might turn it around just enough to lose their number one draft pick for Connor Bedard. Grin

2023 NHL All Star Game's Skills Competition adds 3 events: Enterprise NHL Splash Shot, Chipotle NHL Pitch 'n Puck, and the Discover NHL Tendy Tandem.

NHL.com:

Quote
The 2023 NHL All-Star Skills presented by Draftkings Sportsbook will feature three new events.

Two of the new events, the Enterprise NHL Splash Shot and Chipotle NHL Pitch 'n Puck, will feature players displaying their skills in outdoor environments that typify Florida. Also new is the Discover NHL Tendy Tandem, an innovative goaltending skills test.

The Enterprise NHL Splash Shot will be on the beach at Fort Lauderdale and feature eight players, divided into four teams of two. Players are required to hit all the targets before attempting to dunk their opponents, the winner being the one to dunk his or her opponents first.

The Chipotle NHL Pitch 'n Puck will have players combine their hockey and golf skills on a par-4 golf hole featuring an island green. Six players will participate, the winner being the one who successfully sinks the puck/ball in the hole with the fewest shots using a combination of hockey and golf shots. If there's a tie, the longest drive determines the winner.

In the Discover NHL Tendy Tandem, eight goalies will work in tandems, one shooting and the other in net (Central vs. Pacific and Atlantic vs. Metro divisions). The shooting goalie from a division will take a shot from a designated mark and will be awarded three points if the shot goes in the hole, two if it hits the in-net target and zero if it misses the net.

This is turning into such a damn carnival. Just let the greatest players in the world play an exhibition game like it's supposed to be.

Blues G Jordan Binnington faces a 2-game suspension for his roughing up Ryan Hartman and attempting to incite fights in last night's 8-5 loss to the Wild.

Mark Andre Fleury being mic'd up and listening to his side of the fight is hysterical. " I don't like my hair like this" Amazing!

Anyway, despite crosby, malkin, and Letang all having good scoring seasons, the pens are likely to crash land into the playoffs and not go far. The third and fourth lines can't buy a goal with a blank check, and Tristan Jarry, for reasons I don't believe are entirely his fault, is having a mediocre year

I suppose that the next 2 months will be the time when Washington meets with Ovechkin and asks him if he wants to stay on a losing team and retire in Washington, or be traded to a good team.

Nah. The reason he's on a losing team is because he's a puck hog who cares more about breaking Gretzky's record than actually putting up points.

5) Penguins are very much washed and I don't think they will make the playoffs. Not because of Sid though he's great per usual, blame Jarry and bottom 6.

Boom

Very sad day for me as a Penguins fan. Crosby and Ovechkin both out of the playoffs. We'll see if both retire with their respective teams or chase after cups.

Crosby's a franchise player through and through. It would take some serious ery for him not to retire as a pen the way his Idol Super Mario did.

The Panthers have eliminated the record-breaking Bruins in OT 4-3 in 7 games. This is an all-time chokejob in Boston, as the Bruins blew a 3-1 series lead and a 3-2 lead in the last minute of regulation of game 7.

Curse of the president's trophy lives on.

The NBA playoffs so far are an example of why the NBA > NHL

Do you make an effort to say dumb things or does it just happen naturally
