Carolina is up 2-0 in the series against the Islanders.
Rangers are up 2-0 in the series against New Jersey.
All the other series are tied and are not "best of 5" contests.

Random facts
Financial and cap penalties 2028 and beyond:

Nashville Predators have to pay the salary cap penalty on the Kyle Turris buyout for 5 more seasons.

Ottawa Senators have to pay the salary cap penalty on the Colin White buyout for 5 more seasons.

Buffalo Sabres have to pay the Christian Ehrhoff buyout for 5 more seasons, but it does not come with a salary cap penalty, due to it being a compliance buyout during league expansion.

Minnesota Wild have to pay the salary cap penalty on the Suter and Parise buyouts for 6 more seasons.

New York Islanders have to pay the Rick DiPietro buyout for 6 more seasons, but it does not come with a salary cap penalty, due to it being a compliance buyout during league expansion.

Los Angeles Kings have to pay the salary cap penalty due to the Mike Richards situation for 9 more seasons.

The Panthers have eliminated the record-breaking Bruins in OT 4-3 in 7 games. This is an all-time chokejob in Boston, as the Bruins blew a 3-1 series lead and a 3-2 lead in the last minute of regulation of game 7.

Second round is almost finalized.

Toronto vs Florida
Carolina vs (New Jersey / NY Rangers)

Dallas vs Seattle
Vegas vs Edmonton

None of the recent cup winners are left in the playoffs!
Here are the years that all of the above teams last won the Stanley Cup:

2006 Carolina Hurricanes
(2003 New Jersey Devils)
1999 Dallas Stars
(1994 New York Rangers)
1990 Edmonton Oilers
1967 Toronto Maple Leafs
NEVER - Florida Panthers
NEVER - Vegas Golden Knights
NEVER - Seattle Kraken

5) Penguins are very much washed and I don't think they will make the playoffs. Not because of Sid though he's great per usual, blame Jarry and bottom 6.

Boom

Very sad day for me as a Penguins fan. Crosby and Ovechkin both out of the playoffs. We'll see if both retire with their respective teams or chase after cups.

Crosby's a franchise player through and through. It would take some serious ery for him not to retire as a pen the way his Idol Super Mario did.

The Chicago Blackhawks won the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery, so they will be picking in the #1 spot. This means that Connor Bedard will likely be taken there.

This is a disgrace. The Blackhawks covered up systemic abuse for a decade and get to sweep it under the rug by bringing in a generational talent? Absolutely no one outside of their already diminished fanbase wants to see this and the NHL should be ashamed for trying to sweep that scandal under the rug.

Final four looks like:

(Vegas/Edmonton) - Dallas
Carolina (confirmed) - Florida (extremely likely)

I've been following the draft a bit.

The whole Bedard and Fantilli thing is very reminiscent of McDavid and Eichel.

Connor Bedard goes at 1 to Chicago, no question, they won't trade the pick.

Adam Fantilli goes at 2, no question, probably to the Ducks. They could MAYBE trade down to 3 or 4 but ONLY if they like one of those kids more than Fantilli.

Leo Carlsson goes in the top 5 for sure. Center but plays wing too.

Will Smith goes in the top 5 almost for sure, rumour is Columbus likes him at 3 but could just be fake gossip. Center but plays wing too. A few people think he'll be a winger in the NHL but I think it's just a minority opinion.

Matvei Mitchkov is a winger, not a center like the other 4, but apparently he's better than Fantilli and probably top 2 or top 3 in the draft for how good he is. He has a contract in the KHL until 2025 or 2026 and there's SOME chance he can't come over due to geopolitics. If he drops down to 5, there are rumours that Montreal would trade down in the top 10 to a team that is more willing to take that risk.

Names popping up that could somehow break into the top 5 and shock everybody... Benson, Dvorsky, Reinbacher.

I'm proud of the Devils for the season they had. The Hurricanes are my 2nd team, so I'm not too broken up about it, they were just clearly the better team.

I'm pretty fond of all the teams left in the playoffs actually. I would love to see Edmonton pull it out.

Trading Bob may be the Flyers' biggest mistake (and that is saying A LOT considering the medical staff literally almost killed Eric Lindros by forcing him onto a plane with a collapsed lung)

Not NHL, but hockey.

Latvia won Bronze against the US 4-3 in overtime in the IIHF World Championship 3rd Place game.

It makes Latvia the first non-Russian former Soviet country to medal at the World Championships:
